The Forbidden Language

The Forbidden Language

Sybilla Marie Wester Tuxen

In a landscape of mountains, a word emerges, an ancient legend is told to us. But this word can take unexpected forms.

“There’s a lot more to read behind the words”. That sentence seems to be the axiom of The Forbidden Language. Beginning from the legend of a queen from the pre-Islamic times whose language would have been lost, the movie is mixing several ways of expression and reading, where the signs of this language, visibles by all, remain puzzling. The twirling hands of the young lady signing the episodes of the legend, the lines on the palm of the hand that an old medium is trying to decipher, the stony and arid landscapes are illuminated by digital rays of color, inviting us to decode what we’re seeing… These patterns are building an overwhelming universe, where every element can be read as a letter of this peculiar world, letter that we will have to decipher.
