Tomb of the diver

Tomb of the diver

Federico Francioni, Yang heng

“The Tomb of the Diver”, an ancient fresco exhibited at the Paestum Museum of Archeology, is the starting point of a journey to undetermined temporal contours in the landscapes of southern Italy.

From a mesterpiece of the Greek art, the movie expresses reflections around the landscapes of the Amalfitan coast. which are the meeting place of thousands of tourists who come to admire them. Thin and sensistive threads are guiding us : a suggestive association of images, sensations and ideas produced by the place itself, their contemplation, their architecture and their story. The landscape in itself does not appear to us in a panoramic way (the choice of the 4/3 format is meaningful), but rather in its plastic, geological, archeological, but also tragic dimensions. Made of layers, stratum, it is the place where various times are co-existing ; past and present, antique architectures and modern villas, baroque constructions and buses full of tourists. Carried by a singular framing, the movie questions the simultaneous presence of things and the melancholic beauty of those places, victims of their own success.
